Thank
you for your interest in our New Curler Clinic. We hope that you will find the
sport as much fun as we have. It is a great way to meet new people, and to
challenge yourself with a new athletic activity. You will be surprised how
quickly the winter will pass by. This note will explain some of the aspects of
membership and curling at Mayfield.
Our
season runs from about the 1st of November through the middle of
March. We break the season into three “events” or “sessions” for which you can
sign up to curl. Each session is seven (7) weeks in length. Initially, new
curlers meet on Monday evenings with other new curlers. This way you can learn
the sport, with instruction, in a supportive (and non intimidating)
atmosphere. As an aside, curlers are always polite and encouraging – even when
you make a mistake! You will then be able to sign up for other times in the
second and third events. The New Curler Clinics meet Monday nights at 7:00 PM
and lasts about 2 hours. They begin in early November for six (6) weeks.
Curling
is a commitment like any other league sport. You are expected to show up and
of course be on time. We DO start promptly.
Membership: Mayfield Curling Club is a private club, and we
are very proud of our active and enthusiastic membership. Mayfield Curling
Club is affiliated with The Mayfield Sand Ridge Club, and is located on the
Club’s Mayfield Country Club campus in South Euclid, a suburb of Cleveland. While a number of Mayfield Curling Club’s members are Mayfield Sand Ridge
members, membership is not limited to Mayfield Sand Ridge members. At the end
of the 6 week New Curler Clinic, you may apply for membership in the Mayfield
Curling Club. First year curlers are billed monthly for four months; thereafter
billing is monthly for six months per year. There is no fee for
participation in the 6 week New Curler Clinic.
Dress
Code and Equipment: Proper attire
is required of curlers and prospective and new curlers when they are at the
curling house and the Mayfield Clubhouse. When at the Clubhouse, Curling
house, and other Mayfield Sand Ridge properties, no jeans are allowed. The
dress code for the Mayfield Clubhouse is “Country Club Casual”, which is
defined as casual attire in good taste. Collared or banded shirts for the men
are required. Unacceptable clubhouse attire include: warm-up suits, gym
shorts, tee shirts and tank tops. Denim of any kind is unacceptable attire
anywhere on Mayfield Sand Ridge Club Properties.
Curling
(on-ice) attire should be
comfortable and practical for the sport, but still needs to adhere to basic
dress guidelines. Casual slacks (e.g. Dockers), curling pants (see Goldline
catalog) or nicer track-style pants with collared or banded shirts,
turtlenecks, fleece, vests and jackets are preferred over sweatpants, tee
shirts or more casual attire.
If
you have questions, just ask! We look forward to seeing you on the ice. GOOD
CURLING!
